This play is based on a novel written by Russian writer 'Chingiz Aitmatov' in year 1962. The director has related the story of a city in Russia with the current situation of a city 'Mainpuri' in Uttar Pradesh, India. The play is about the struggle of a teacher sent to a village by a Government Organization to teach the ignorant masses. But the villagers, instead of cooperating with him, refuse to help and do not even let their children go to school. There is a 14 year old girl Sangeeta, an orphan, who is fascinated by the teacher and his knowledge. The girl lives with her uncle-aunt and fall preys to their backward mindset that makes her marry an old man in exchange of lots of money. The teacher fights with all odds to rescue her from the problems. He then sends the girl to the city for studies only to make her a successful person when she is grown-up. The play sends a strong message of women empowerment, girl education and a fight against ignorance, backward mind set of the society which still persists in many places of our country.

'Thiru Nangai' is the story of a young transgender Chanda, who has been living in a Dera with other transgenders since shortly after her birth. She lives happily with the Dera-mates and they too are equally concerned about her. However, fortune plays its role and Chanda's life turns on its head when she gets to know about her biological family. She becomes hell bent to meet her family (a royal one) and is strongly retaliated by the head of the Dera, Tara (her guardian, her mentor and a mother-figure). Tara stops Chanda from meeting them as such an encounter would most certainly have catastrophic consequences. Chanda, on the other hand, despite all the resistance, meets her family and what follows is a turn of events that reflects how transgenders are treated in our society. The play is subtle in its depiction of the plight of the transgenders and an in-your-face spectacle of a spectrum of emotions of a despised community which is as human as you and me.
